Time questions on the Wonderlic.

This question is a variation on the Wonderlic’s questions requiring you to calculate average.

We know that to find the average, or “how many seconds lost per day”, we need to take these steps: divide the time lost (2 minutes and 36 seconds) by total days (78).

However, what makes this question a bit trickier is that we are given minutes and seconds rather than just seconds.

So, our first step will be to convert the time lost into seconds:

1. Convert minutes and seconds into seconds:

1 minute = 60 seconds

so

2 minutes =  2 x 60 seconds = 120 seconds

Total seconds = 120 seconds + 36 seconds = 156 seconds.

Now that we are only dealing with seconds, this question becomes a little easier.

2. Divide:

We can now divide total seconds lost by total number of days to get seconds lost per day:

156 / 78 = 2

The clock lost 2 seconds per day.

A clock lost 1 minute and 12 seconds in 9 days. How many seconds did it lose per day?

A. 13

B. 4

C. 9

D. 6

E. 8

1. Convert minutes and seconds into seconds only:

1 minute = 60 seconds

so

1 minute and 12 seconds = 60 seconds and 12 seconds = 72 seconds

2. Divide:

72 seconds lost / 9 days = seconds lost per day

72 / 9 = 8
